Private collection of the Schardt family from Mykolaiv

The private collection of the Schardt family from Mykolaiv represents a cohesive family archive and at the same time a powerful material testimony to the history of the Black Sea Germans. It brings together photographs, letters, everyday objects, embroidery, wooden artefacts, and family keepsakes dating from the late nineteenth century to the end of the twentieth century. Each item tells the story of successive generations – their work, the hardships of political repression, and their determined efforts to preserve their cultural identity and heritage.

The Virtual Museum of the Black Sea Germans is supported by the European Union under the House of Europe programme.
