Bessarabske Historical and Local Lore Museum

Historical and Local Lore Museum Bessarabske
Urban-Type Settlement of Bessarabske, Bolhrad Raion, Odesa Oblast

The museum was opened in 1965 on the initiative of the settlement's residents. The main collection includes 300 museum items. The "Archaeology" and "Ethnography" expositions stand out for the richness of their materials of museum significance. The ethnographic collections have Bulgarian, Ukrainian, and German focuses. These include household items, tools, national clothing, and a collection of pottery.

In addition to adding new exhibits to the museum's collections, the museum's active members engage in search and local lore work, correspond with people of German descent who originated from Bessarabske, and cooperate with national-cultural societies.

For this project, photographic materials were used, which were taken during the historical and ethnographic expeditions of 2001–2003 and 2007–2009 (led by Candidate of Historical Sciences V. V. Solodova) to the former German colonies of the Black Sea region – in villages of the Odesa and Mykolaiv Oblasts.
The Virtual Museum of the Black Sea Germans is supported by the European Union under the House of Europe programme.
