Shabo Museum of Local History
Shabo Museum of Local History Shabo village,
Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Raion, Odesa Oblast
The museum was founded in 2000 on the basis of Secondary School No. 1 in Shabo, on the initiative of geography teacher L. V. Chekmariova.
Part of the museum collection was formed through donations from the residents of the village and the district, and another part during planned expeditions by members of the school search groups "Young Local Historians", "Young Guides", "Young Volunteers", and the "Search"group. As a result, a rich collection of ethnographic and historical-local lore materials was created.
The total number of items in the main collection is 1,750 storage units. The exhibition, which covers the period from the late 19th to the early 20th century, reflects the specifics of the region's settlement and development. The ethnographic section presents exhibits illustrating the life and daily routines of German settlers in the South Bessarabian region, as well as materials about the Swiss colonists who made a significant contribution to the development of viticulture and winemaking culture.
Separate exhibition sections address the political and social life of the region during the period from 1918 to 1941.
