Local History Museum of Lymanske

The Local History Museum of Lymanske Village at Lymanske Professional Agrarian Lyceum
Lymanske village, Rozdilna Raion, Odesa Oblast

Lymanske village was historically the site of the German colonies Selz and Kandel in the Odesa Uyezd of the Kherson Governorate. However, the museum was only established in 2005 within the Lymanske Professional Agrarian Lyceum, an initiative led by Luiza Fritsivna Riesling and Marharyta Oleksiyivna Badayeva.

An adapted room within the lyceum was allocated for the museum. Unfortunately, the number of authentic exhibits is small—the main fund consists of only 45 museum objects. Using auxiliary research materials and copies, the staff managed to create the following exhibition sections: "The First Colonist Settlers," "Everyday Life of the Colonists," "Cultural Life of the German Colonists," and "Contemporary Life of Lymanske Village."

For this project, photographic materials were used, which were taken during the historical and ethnographic expeditions of 2001–2003 and 2007–2009 (led by Candidate of Historical Sciences V. V. Solodova) to the former German colonies of the Black Sea region – in villages of the Odesa and Mykolaiv Oblasts.
The Virtual Museum of the Black Sea Germans is supported by the European Union under the House of Europe programme.
