Museum of Local Lore, Nadia village

Museum of Local Lore Nadezhdivka
Nadezhdivka village, Bolhrad Raion, Odesa Oblast

The museum was established in 2003 on the initiative of Günther Fossler in a former German house that had belonged to his grandfather, Frederick Fossler.

The museum, which focuses on historical and ethnographic studies, is managed by the Limited Liability Company "Champagne of Ukraine" (Tovarystvo z obmezhenoyu vidpovidalnistyu "Shampan Ukrainy").

The majority of the museum's collection was formed thanks to the villagers, who donated household items, domestic furnishings, documents, and photographs. The main fund consists of 224 museum artifacts.

The availability of original and auxiliary research materials made it possible to create an exhibition dedicated to the history of the settlement and development of Nadezhdivka village (formerly the German colony Hoffnungsfeld/Hopefield in Akkerman Uyezd, Bessarabia Governorate).

For this project, photographic materials were used, which were taken during the historical and ethnographic expeditions of 2001–2003 and 2007–2009 (led by Candidate of Historical Sciences V. V. Solodova) to the former German colonies of the Black Sea region – in villages of the Odesa and Mykolaiv Oblasts.
The Virtual Museum of the Black Sea Germans is supported by the European Union under the House of Europe programme.
